Toshogu Shrine celebrates Taisai (grand festival) twice a year. “Yabusame (horseback archery)” and “Hyakumono-zoroi Sennin Musha Gyoretsu (procession of the 1000 samurai)” are held during the Taisai in autumn.
Yabusame is a Japanese traditional event shooting arrows from the backs of running horses. Musha Gyoretsu is a reproduced procession of samurai who separately enshrined the spirit of Tokugawa Ieyasu as a deity to Nikko. The view of samurai walking in the costume of those days is just like a picture scroll of the olden days!
